The 10″ x 12″ series are the last of his works for the year 2022. As the artist continues to develop his practice, this time, he veered away from using a seen canvas for his current works for the show, allowing the viewer to focus more on the material he used for the piece.

About the Artist

Karl Lago (b. 1994) is an interior designer and a graduate from the University of Santo Tomas who also creates abstract collage art from dried palm crown shafts: the fibrous leaf base of a palm tree. Every piece of this material is gathered, dried, cut, treated, sanded, and iron-pressed by hand. His art was developed from his design practice of sourcing and using different raw materials, and creating them into surface finishes, decorative items, and even for the furniture he has designed.

Each work that he does is like a completing a picture puzzle: all pieces are scattered but connected, picked-up and put together to solve an image as its goal. All these are the result and the extension of his thoughts and emotions, allowing the viewer to visualize and connect through the reused biowaste assemblage of textures, tones, shapes, and colors.
