About the Artwork/s
From textural and expressive brushwork, I have gradually fine tuned my process to create clarity in my compositions. Animalistic creatures and odd figures remain within the frame of deep hues. My works seek to find the balance between impulse and control.

Artist Statement
Seeing familiar forms in ink blots and finding shapes in clouds – these are intimately related to my process. I find it fascinating how new forms (and worlds) can be found in familiar images. Shifting one’s perspective provides a refreshing view of what’s in front of you, giving comfort that there may be several layers and possibilities to our being. There is more to see beneath the surface, among the overlapping, intersecting lines, shapes, and colors.

About the Artist
Maia San Diego (b. 1996) is an alumna of the University of the Philippines Diliman College of Fine Arts. She has participated in several group exhibitions within and outside Metro Manila. After her stay at the Linangan Art Residency in Cavite, she has been exploring the possibilities of abstract expressionism through intuitive painting. She finds creative liberation in searching for forms of both familiar and unfamiliar figures within her works.
