About the Artist

Alfonso Recto (b. 1985) is a visual artist born and working in Manila, Philippines. He is a graduate of the University of the Philippines, School of Fine Arts where he majored in Industrial Design. After a few years working in graphic design, a compulsion to pursue deeper and more personal work led him to his calling as an artist.

Alfonso Recto has mounted numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the city. In his work, Recto explores numerous themes in his abstract and figurative works. His eclectic interests in music, literature, film, culture, science, philosophy, and spirituality all become part of his unique visual language.

“My work is an intuitive blending from many different sources that form my own distinct idiom of expression. In terms of artistic movements, I draw on themes from cubism, abstract expressionism, and surrealism among others. My other interests such as music, literature, film, culture, science, philosophy, and spirituality are all things that also manifest in my work.” – Alfonso Recto
