About the Artists.
Charlotte lamy (b. 1990) the potato head behind @ricenoodlepotato holds a Master Degree in Transcultural Design with a specialisation in Graphic Design. After working in design studios in Oslo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Cambodia, she decided to leave the office and move to the pristine island of Siargao in the Philippines. Immersed in nature, this is when she slowly shifted from Graphic design to expressive and personalised doodling. She first started drawing the majestic landscapes surrounding her, then transitioned to creating the chubby chilling hermaphrodites she is more recently know for. Touches of Chinese opera, disproportioned humans, vibrant colours, local patterns, pagoda sparkles, church vibes, travel memories, Asian childhood sprinkles, food color combo, and astrology are all mixed into her Ricenoodlepotato bundle. Always curious, she loves to listen to your story, dig deep for your personal tiny visual specificity so she can incorporate them into her custom made illustrations.
Kenneth Santiago (b. 1994) graduated from University of the East Caloocan with a bachelor of fine arts major in painting in 2018. Most of his works revolves around portraiture, landscape, and other different subjects that he considers personal.
Regina Reyes was born in the city of Manila in the early nineties. Raised in an ancestral house in a township in the province of Rizal, childhood, and adolescence spent within the confines of a home steeped in heritage influenced and ignited what can be considered an enduring exploration of home, the familial, the ephemeral and the everlasting, which, until now, permeates and illuminates even her most recent body of work. In recent years Reyes diverged her art practice into several branches. In every puncture and pull of her needlework, she ruminates the tangled, difficult complexity of womanhood. In her collages, she enlists her environs as collaborator and co-author, and with the written word, paintings and sculptures she contemplates the fleeting with the immutable—recognizing beauty within the swirls and eddies of everyday life.
CM Arquio (b. 2000) is an artist from Cebu City. He is currently a student at The University of the Philippines-Cebu, taking up Bachelor’s of Fine Arts Majoring Studio Arts. He is known for his works that juxtapose realistic subjects and cartoon figures as his way of making sense of reality.
Dana Bote (b. 1994) is a visual artist based in Manila. Her works exhibit peculiar and paradoxical ways to show a person’s chaotic inner world in calm, mundane, and sometimes, grotesque subjects.
Bea Aspiras (b. 1993) is a painter based in Quezon City. She studied painting at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, OCAD University in Toronto, and Langara College in Vancouver. Seeking to encapsulate the highs and lows of daily life while staying true to the spontaneity of her intuition while creating, it was during her time in Canada when she discovered her affinity for abstract expressionism. Completely falling in love with its raw artistic process. Because of her sincerity for introspection and eagerness to learn, she paints to explore the individual subjectivity of human perception, sensibilities, and emotions. Bea takes inspiration from the stories she accumulates from her unending pursuit to connect with people through art.
Maia San Diego (b. 1996) is an alumna of the University of the Philippines Diliman College of Fine Arts. She has participated in several group exhibitions within and outside Metro Manila. After her stay at the Linangan Art Residency in Cavite, she has been exploring the possibilities of abstract expressionism through intuitive painting. She finds creative liberation in searching for forms of both familiar and unfamiliar figures within her works.
Karl Lago (b. 1994) is an interior designer and a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas who also creates abstract collage art from dried palm crown shafts: the fibrous leaf base of a palm tree. Every piece of this material is gathered, dried, cut, treated, sanded, and iron-pressed by hand. His art was developed from his design practice of sourcing and using different raw materials, and creating them into surface finishes, decorative items, and even the furniture he has designed. Each work that he does is like completing a picture puzzle: all pieces are scattered but connected, picked up, and put together to solve an image as its goal. All these are the result and the extension of his thoughts and emotions, allowing the viewer to visualize and connect through the reused biowaste assemblage of textures, tones, shapes, and colors.
Densen Almeda‘s drawings and renditions on paint and canvas are narratives about personal experiences, sociopolitical statements, and cultural homage. Drawn to different forms of art, Almeda blended his interest in a modern and minimalistic design with visual arts. His use of surrealistic, pop, and naturalistic approaches in painting got national recognition and grants. He was a semifinalist of the Metrobank Art Competition and a grantee of NCCA Bagong Biswal. Utilizing forms and colors to tell stories, Almeda uses symbols to illuminate the depths of his subject.
Miguel Paulo Borja (b. 1987) is a visual artist working mostly in acrylic and oil paint. He often combines the impasto stroke-work of abstract impressionism and a heavy influence of the more analytical surrealist creating worlds of his own. His style is raw and unapologetic, much like his process which gives way for a communion between will and accident; form and abstraction. A recent shift in Borja’s works is the effect of his deliberate action of stepping back to allow his art to breathe. With a constant strive to push boundaries, the result gives a quality of an experimental and fresh process. Movement, Borja received his BFA in Painting at University of Santo Tomas. He exhibits his works in Manila, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei, Jakala and London.
Yana Ofrasio (b. 1990) is a visual artist whose practice revolves around the interconnectivity of materials to a person’s internal and external environment. Through collaborations and community engagements related to early childhood learning, she works on creative projects that foster inclusion, equity, collective healing and unlearning.
