“SUPER DUPER!”
In his third solo exhibition “SUPER DUPER!”, Guevarra expresses his appreciation for his childhood heroes; Voltes V, Godzilla, and Darna, among others. The references to 90s pop culture icons in his work are easily recognizable, as Guevarra intends to reminisce with his audience through his creations. Each of his pieces consist of an assemblage of playing cards, plastic toys, and other mementos of the past, as well as a painted image of a familiar icon. His work also has an interactive element by means of cranking a lever to make certain areas of his work come to life.
As a 90s kid, Raymond Guevarra has a natural affinity for the nostalgic. His exciting visual compositions instantly remind viewers of simpler times and of minds unconsumed by technology.
