    About the Artist

Graduated from Osaka College of Design in 1994. In 1997, he won the 75th Spirit Prize Encouragement Prize at Shogakkan Big Comic Spirits, and started his career as a manga artist, but in 2002, he was impressed by the “Yamashita Kiyoshi Exhibition” and began to self-teach. Participated in various group exhibitions since 2010, such as Kobe Watakushi Museum of Art (2011) and Ayuho Rindo Gallery (2011).

Matsubara cuts the paper that he painted himself into the same shape with his fingers or cuts it out with a tool, and sticks the small pieces on the base material and stacks them. Almost miniature art works create an abstract image that allows multifaceted interpretation, and its texture and repetitive pattern appeal to the viewer’s five senses. The radial expanse, which can be seen as an imitation of nature, such as ripples on the water surface, bird’s feathers, and petals, seems to extend beyond the frame of the support. Matsubara’s abyssal worldview continues to attract domestic and foreign viewers.
