BIOGRAPHY

There is art in the ordinary - scenes, faces, everyday objects, pets, animals – which we normally take for granted and fail to appreciate. There is always something remarkable in the ordinary. Miguel Nañawa aims to point that out with his art. There is a certain rawness, impulsiveness, and naiveté in most of his work while trying to maintain a realism.

Through the years, he has worked mainly in acrylic and pen and ink, and, with each of these mediums, has tried to create art for those who have similar lives to his . He holds a 9 – 5 office job and many times, has to bear and survive the corporate rat race. He would like those who consider themselves “ordinary” or regular people to realize that art is not reserved for the rich or affluent, and that we, the ordinary people deserve as much.

He has devoted a large part of his life to studying and playing Flamenco, performing professionally around the country and abroad. Flamenco is an intense form of music and dance, expressive and passionate. Miguel’s art pieces convey some of the same emotions and intensity, just like Flamenco.

Miguel’s art can also evoke loneliness, sadness, despair, or an ‘I don’t give a shit’ indifference, bordering on boredom. Whenever he is commissioned to create art, he gives a lot of thought on how to present the subject accurately, while keeping spontaneity and whimsicality at play too. This way, his art has structure as well as the freedom which draws it closer to the viewer.
