Yolanda Tabanera was born in Madrid in 1965. Having studied Literature and Fine Arts in Madrid and Munich she obtained a degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Munich in 1992. Her work is intensely introspective, focusing on the visionary exploration of an interior space that is expressed in a language of its own. In a subtle and metaphorical way the artist tackles themes of great importance in the existence of mankind like the fragility and transcendence of the human body, its grandeur and its mortality. Yolanda Tabanera creates and develops this poetic transformation through a creative process running from the drawing to the object and the installation. In this process she combines craftwork techniques and processes working with materials as diverse as ceramics, espartograss, glass, leather and silverwork. Tabanera explores the expressivity and force of these materials endowing her objects with a lifelike quality which can be likened to the aura of liturgical and ritual objects.f
DIBUJOS NEGROS, black drawings belong to a serie of 10 works on paper shown for the first time in 2008 in the show Solsticio in Galería Travesia Cuatro, Madrid. These pieces intend to represent an imaginary anatomy where distorsion and metamorphosis appear as subjects also present in my objects and installations. Silver and black, organism and ornament, life and death.
