“OPEN HOUSE 2023”

With a diverse assembly of visual and new media artists, Modeka Space announces the latest version of their OPEN HOUSE, featuring contemporary works that cover a wide range of art practices—from painting, sculpture, textile, design, photography, video, and film.

Now on its third iteration, this event, which takes on the format of a group exhibition, will feature more than thirty artists who represent different visual styles and sensibilities through their craft. With some up-and-coming names as well as established practitioners in their respective industries, the show provides an opportunity to see and recognize some of the most current trends in art-making.

In gathering a varied combination of painters, photographers, designers, and filmmakers, Modeka’s OPEN HOUSE has become an experimental platform in its own right, constantly testing out new directions and recent formats in the visual and plastic arts, moving-image, and design. Coupled by performances, live sound sets, and music, the show also serves as a celebration of new discovery, as well as recognition and appreciation of rarely seen works.

This annual exhibition, organized and curated by Modeka group’s Arvin Viola, puts the emphasis once again in showing distinctive works by each artist—and how they enrich the conversation on contemporaneity when placed together against other distinctive works. In this call for both celebration and discovery, the gallery evokes an atmosphere conducive to traversing different mediums,
and a wide range of formats—both conventional and experimental; as well as a wide range of names—both new and familiar, in now what has become an emerging tradition for showcasing diversity and intersectionality in the local arts.
